I am recently installed Emenese and I think its pretty nice (of course it can only connect MSN account, but still, nice application).
I never tried aMSN.

I use Pidgin because it has good plugin support, like OTR.

aMSN, because I have a hotmail email address. And all of my friends use Windows messenger.

I have Pidgin, Emesene and aMSN. I recently started using aMSN more and to me it seems to have more features than the other two. It claims to support webcams, but honestly, i haven't tried that yet.

Pidgin under both Linux and Windows.

Pidgin, sometimes Finch. I'd switch over to Finch full time if it sent urgent flags.

Pidgin. I tried Empathy when I upgraded to Karmic but it didn't seem very stable. I've also used Kopete which was very impressive.

I use Pidgin now, although I only chat over MSN. I like the fact that Pidgin is simple and not intrusive.

I've used Kopete, back when I used KDE, and I liked it. I used to use Trillian on windows and that was great.

I stopped using the official MSN clint in windows when adverts appeared, and I used to use AIM and ICQ, but I don't know anyone that use those anymore.

Pidgin mostly, then aMSN. I never use Empathy because it is like going back to the stone age.

I tried emesene several times in Jaunty and never got it to even load so I won't waste my time with it in Karmic.

aMSN, because I have a hotmail email address. And all of my friends use Windows messenger.

Same, and because they often send me doodles and custom emoticons.

Pidgin for 99% of the time with jabber transports. Emesene for the other 1%.

i have been using pidgin for a long time now. I tried empathy and went back to pidgin; there was no real reason other than i have used pidgin since it was gaim.

Pidgin, because I need a multi-protocol, cross-platform client with a specific feature set, and it is the only client that meets my needs.

I have no friends which nicely does away with this decision.

Pidgin. Followed by Kopete and Digsby :)

I actually do prefer Kopete to Pidgin, but Pidgin is updated more often so things like Facebook chat actually work on there! :)

not really, but I installed it almost immediately after doing a fresh install. It could be slowing it down, but I havent noticed

Empathy for GoogleTalk and aMSN for MSN since it currently supports custom emoticons and webcam (empathy isn't working for me here yet but I am debugging it).
