I installed LAMP then Media wiki as outlined in the Ubuntu Community (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MediaWiki). It is working well from what I can tell. I have around 30 pages in it now and want to improve it by adding some extensions. Problem is the Ubuntu install places the wiki in a different place than if installing from scratch and I don't know which directory I need to place the extensions in, /etc/mediwiki/, /usr/share/mediwiki/, or /var/lib/mediwiki/. I just don't understand how each of these are different and why I need 3 mediawiki directories. Thanks to anyone who can clear this up for me.

Is it better to install Media wiki this way, will it be updated at some point or is it better to install this program by their instructions?

I am running:
Ubuntu 9.04
MediaWiki 1.13.3
PHP 5.2.6-3ubuntu4.2 (apache2handler)
MySQL 5.0.75-0ubuntu10.2

Hello,

I was able to install mediawiki fine and also got the first page ok (http://localhost/mediawiki/) but when click on "Please set up the wiki (http://localhost/mediawiki/config/index.php) first" i get "The requested URL /mediawiki/config/index.php was not found on this server." . Pls help !

Thanks,
Raj
