Simple question = Simple solution (hopefully)

Well being a new converter to linux I have been dazzled by a rotating cube. I've done all the settings in compiz and all that just the way I want. The only problem is that everytime I boot up the computer the settings are all gone (eg the visual effects goes back to none and the 4 desktops turn into 2). So my simple question is, how do you make this permanent.

I am still a noob at this but hopefully I will learn, any help is appreciated.
