Ok I am trying to complete my upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10 and when I tried to enable the composite extension by adding to the config file the following:

Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" " Enable"
Option "Composite" "1"

I saved that and then rebooted pc and now on boot I get a tty1 screen after the splash asking for my login and password and then after I entr the info it goes straight to the root menu.

I tried putting the cd back in and boot into safe graphical mode but that keeps repeating the problem.

OK, I am not having the flashing problem as some are having. I did update my themes using the following http://www.ubuntugeek.com/nice-themes-for-ubuntu-9-10-karmic-users.html and it asked me what format do I want the desktop images in (4:3 or 16:10). I selected 16:10 because before I rebooted after the initial xorg.conf change I noticed that the image was extra zoomed in. I am not sure if that had anything to do with my problem I am having](*,)

How and what do I need to edit to get back to a operational state?

And Ummmmmm it really seems that 9.10 is real freaking buggy!

I knew I should have been happy with just a 2D screen why did I think I needed 3D effects?

OK, well I ran the live CD and had a look at my xorg.conf file and it was blank blank blank. Even the backup.

How do I generate a new one???

P4 3G 64 bit
2G memory
GeForce 8400GS

I am running the latest nvidia drivers (as recommended by hardware tool)

I have a post where I had problems getting composite to enable from 9.04 and it looks like this

That worked with 9.04 but I am not sure if I can make changes to it to get it to work or how do I generate a new one?

Please advise

I fixed it!

I wiped out 9.1 and put 9.04 back on.

Is Ubuntu the new Microsoft?

Ubuntu is an African word meaning 'Humanity to others', or 'I am what I am because of who we all are'. The Ubuntu distribution brings the spirit of Ubuntu to the software world.

It isnt very humane to release such buggy software:(
