My husband's pc is filled with viruses that crippled it and I convinced him to switch to Ubuntu.
I have installed ubuntu on other computers without a problem.
For some reason I am being prompted to login instead of seeing the installation wizard I am used to seeing.
This is a fresh install and not an upgrade.
The windows xp did not have a password set. You clicked on the user and went right in after the welcome screen.
I am installing Koala.

You're not installing Ubuntu inside windows. Your installing burnt from a .iso

Yes that is true. I burned a dvd as an iso with roxio.
I put the dvd in the tray and then started up my computer.
Normally I would get a installation wizard, but instead I have a brown desktop with a black box in the center that is prompting me to login.
I tried leaving username and password blank and that was not accepted.

The first thing it should ask is what language you want to install in. You got me stumped. Try another slower burn maybe?

New to me as well but I never burn an iso at speeds faster than 24x although the drive says it supports up to 52x.
Also make sure you are burning it to make a bootable drive and not just a copy of the iso.
I don't know Roxio that well but Nero works fine.

Yes you are right. It did ask me for the language.
Before that it asked if I wanted to install without changing my computer, install, run from disc, etc.
Could a virus have put a password on the BIOS?

I am having the disc checked for integrity now

It just told me that an error is found in one file.
I am going to try and create a new disc.
Thanks for the help. Appreciate it.

No you're fine install it. It's a totally new set up now. It's pretty fancy.
It should ask for language, keyboard all that good stuff. Then User's full, name user, password all on one screen.

It never gets me that far.
I can't do screen shots, so I took these photos with my cell phone...
First I turn on my computer with the iso disc in the tray and I am asked for the language

Then I get this screen and I select the first option...

The I see the Ubuntu logo fade in and out...

The I see the word Ubuntu underlined and the line goes back and forth...
