Dual Boot with 2 HDs

I have an XP machine. The machine should easily handle Ubuntu 9.04. What I'm wondering about is this. I have two hard drives. I would like Ubuntu to share the primary drive with XP and ignore the second drive altogether. Can it do that and if so how do I install it so it will do that.

the best bet is to use gparted to resize the xp partition smaller then simply install ubuntu in the free space created. Worth backing up your files first if possible.
