cant install anything....help

Hi,
i am trying to re-install my netbook via USB Key and nothing is working, if i try and load on winxp I get an error status 18.

If I try and install Ubuntu 9.10 I get an error telling me that it can't find linux..

can anyone help me as its driving me mental.

try searching the forum for that error 18.
I'm not sure what it is, but have seen a number of references to in connection with installation and / or boot problems.
