View Full Version : [ubuntu] Help me interpret hard drive SMART results and Seatools results?

Two nights ago my computer was locking up, then shutting itself down. I suspected the problem to be the hard drive, or RAM. RAM is being tested as I write, and has passed 1 pass of MEmtest86+ off the Ubuntu live CD so far. I can still access files on the drive.

Seatools Results:
Short Drive Self-test - FAIL
Long drive self-test FAIL
Short generic PASS
Long Generic PASS

SmartCTL Output:

sudo smartctl -s on -a /dev/sda2
smartctl version 5.38 [i686-pc-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-8 Bruce Allen
