Have you used Pandora One?

I paid for and use Pandora One and love it! even works great on a slow connection without interruption. Pandora One is the best way I have found yet for personalized streaming radio stations and music over all.

When I first heard of Pandora I went to check it out and the combination of their music submittal process being a hurdle to those who create music as a hobby and don't want to mess with having CDs made, and the indication that even if the artist/record label gets a CD to them the people at Pandora that review the submissions may reject it based on their own opinion that it is crap.

Last time I checked they did not have a submission process listed, indicating that it was in the process of being updated, and there was indication that artists/labels would be able to upload music, but I expect the part about possibly being rejected because some reviewer at Pandora thinks it's crap will still apply.

Last FM has a mix of commercial and independent artists, makes it relatively easy for artists/record labels to upload, and as far as I can tell never reject/take down anything unless some legal issue comes up.

If you create a profile, it's up to the scrobbling and derived statistics to determine neighbors you should be paired with, recommendations, etc...

Takes a little while to build the statistics and you will probably have to ban some stuff you don't like, but relative to the amount of stuff I have listened to I have not banned much, usually choosing instead to wipe tracks from my profile and usually it does pretty good at playing songs I like and providing recommendations to things I like.

The usage of arbitrary tags helps too if you find one already in use that has stuff you might like:

http://www.last.fm/tag/awesome%20guitar%20jams

If you can find your way to some groups dedicated to things that interest you that can help too, you can listen to group radios without being a member of a group:

With a paid Pandora One subscription you can also play Pandora with an Adobe Air application, so you don't need to use a browser.

I only use it at work, and the 40 hour limit is annoying but I've been finding alternatives for when my timer runs out.

Yes, I currently use it. I love the higher quality audio, the absence of advertisements, and the fact I can skip more songs each hour.

I use it through PandoraFM, a website that scrobbles what is playing on my Pandora stations and forwards the information to my Last.fm account.

It seems to be U.S-only... so looks like I won't be using it.

Hate sites that do this.

How does that work? It takes the playlist from Pandora and pipes it to your Last.FM account which can then be played through a local music player (e.g. Rythmbox or Banshee)?

It's not pandora's fault, the copyrights on the music wouldn't allow them to. When it first started you could listen to it outside of the U.S.
