View Full Version : Eclipse makefile problem

Hey guys.

I am trying to get Eclipse to be my coding environment for working on a C game called Liquid wars.

Code can be found here:

http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/liquidwar6/0.0.7beta/liquidwar6-0.0.7beta.tar.gz

Now.

I am on Ubuntu 9.10 - installed eclipse for c/c++, Made a new makefile project. Imported the extracted contents of that tar into it and now im stuck.

Normally when compiling from command line I just go into the extracted directory - make, then make install. However Eclipse just shoves this out to the console:

**** Build of configuration Default for project BodyDefenceWars ****

make all all
make: *** No rule to make target `all'. Stop.

Can anybody please explain to me how the heck I get eclipse to pickup and use this makefile - its very strange. I may have missed something obvious - this is my first go at this type of thing!:p

Cheers

Andy

So do i conclude that nobody can help with this......

Well people might want to help, but don't know what to say or how to help you.

Like me, I'm in the current stages of installing CDT. The online tutorials did not work (because the repository links posted did not work), but I am actually installing it now.

UPDATE: Did you read the Eclipse Help. http://help.eclipse.org/galileo/index.jsp

I don't think you can just extract it like that. Eclipse is very specific, therefore there are certain ways that people should do things in Eclipse CDT.

UPDATE 2: The link that I used for CDT install is http://download.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/releases/galileo/ .

Maybe you could take a look once its installed?

Show us the makefile. The error is that there is no 'all' entry.

Looks like the Makefile.in file. I tried to configure it since there was no make file when I downloaded. It appears you need all the dependency before you can make it. Do you have any error when you fun ./configure ?

I had problems with this too. The documentation for Creating a Makefile Project (http://help.eclipse.org/galileo/topic/org.eclipse.cdt.doc.user/getting_started/cdt_w_newproj.htm) does not match what happens when you actually try to do it.

I had to do File-->New-->C++ Project, select Makefile project -->Empty Project, uncheck the default location box, then enter the location of your code. That seems to have done it for me. The project properties should be set correctly, but you might want to make sure the Build Command is set to "make".
