Most of the time, when I start up my computer, the icons on the desktop are not shown. The background image is displayed and the gnome toolbars work, but nothing right on the desktop works or shows up. I'm pretty sure it's because nautilus isn't configured to handle the desktop. If I run gconf-editor, and look at apps>nautilus>preferences, then "show_desktop" is checked. At one point I unchecked that setting, but I have been having this problem since the time I checked the setting again.

If I log out and return, then the problem is fixed temporarily and the icons show up. But in general, it doesn't work when I first turn on the computer.

Any ideas on how to fix this?
