Hello Ubuntu world! Was wondering if anyone can lend a hand?
I used the live cd image to install 9.10 over the top of an ailing XP install on a Dell Inspiron 2650- didnt bother keeping partitions etc. Selected the totally new installation and got as far as rebooting after the install finished.
Now the GNU Grub v 1.97beta loader runs and shows me the grub loader menu. If I select the "Ubuntu Linux 2.6.31-14-generic (recovery mode) the last message reads 0.151136 pci 0000:00:1e.0 PREFETCH WINDOW 0x20000000-0x25ffffff. After this the system hangs (no caps lock light etc)
Is this meaningful? What should happen next?
I can get to the Grub SH command line and Ive tried a few things eg ACPI=off but nothing seems to help.
Can anyone help? What should I try? I'm a Ubuntu/Linux newbie but I'm not afraid of the command line.
