does ubuntu work with wireless N pci cards? is there a capability list anywhere?

I was going to buy a new wireless card but I am worried about that driver file working with ubuntu

It all depends on if the manufacturer of the card provides Linux drivers.

I don't know about wireless n, but can confirm it works with Gigabyte GN-WP01GS. That's a b/g PCI card.

is there some sort of device list for UBUNTU

so I can buy a pci wireless card that is SUPPORTED

There is not list of supported devices I can buy for Ubuntu

how nice!

I wish I could convert windows drivers to UBUNTU

now that would be KOOOOOOOOL!
