I'm (kind of) new to Ubuntu, and I just though of a good idea to get some of my friends running Ubuntu also.

IS there anyway I could make an .iso of my current OS (with all of the packages I have installed)

And use it to install Ubuntu on a another computer?

I think this would be great if i wanted to install it again on another one of MY computers, or to give to a friend.

Why not use a tool that is made to do such a thing, such as Clonezilla? It may not make it into an iso image, but it can certainly be used to replicate your system.

try

dd --help

Edit: might also want to try http://ping.windowsdream.com/ to make an image and roll it out

You could also use APTonCD to make a cd of your packages to install on another system.

You can use remastersys (http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys/ubuntu.html) to create a live CD based on an actual installed system (such as yours). Instructions are in the link.

There was (I think) some problem about using remastersys in 9.10, but apparently it's fixed; I can't find any mention of it in the linked site; and, for good measure, there is a manual method as well, if remastersys does not work for you; look towards the bottom of the page.

This looks promising. Thank you. :D
