I am still struggling to make my Karmic upgrade useable...
At first I thought it was only the sound issue that got me - then I fixed it simply by installing ALSA Mixer, which worked until I rebooted, at which point login failed and I had to use STARTX from a terminal prompt.
Now I have hit another one - with Karmic when I insert a USB memory device I am told that I do not have mount privileges and so I cannot access it.
I am considering breaking the UBUNTU design and removing SUDO so that I run as root to get around this.
And I am still without sound....
Any offers of help appreciated - even if it is just to direct me to a HOW-TO that enables me to run as root...
