View Full Version : [xubuntu] Switching from xfce to Gnome

Well to cut to the chase, I don't want to use xfce anymore. I don't like how it is anymore from it's upgrade to 9.10. What are all the packages I need to download so that I can use Gnome over xfce and how much HDD space will it take up at estimate.

sudo apt-get install gnome-desktop

Hmm. After checking, I think that's wrong. Try:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
I can't say how many packages it will download, or how big of a download you're looking at, but Apt will tell you before downloading anything.

By the way, on my laptop I'm running LXDE, which is a lightweight window manager similar to Xfce, but even lighter. The full ubuntu desktop and xfce both run like molasses on my old laptop, which is a bit under-powered, but lxde is fast and smooth.
