View Full Version : [ubuntu] cannot display video mode

I usually have my Ubuntu box hooked up with no keyboard, mouse or monitor, and VNC into it. I decided to run the upgrade from 8.04 to 9.10 using an alternative CD.

Install went pretty good. But after reboot, I could not VNC into it any more. So I moved the box to a monitor to see whats going on. But it will not display the video on my LCD. The monitor says cannot display this video mode.

I have had to plug it into this monitor before and it worked ok. NVidia card on the box. In the past i would have seen the NVidia Logo during boot up, but not so much anymore.

Is there a way to boot up in an alternate graphics mode so I can fix this?

You can boot a live cd and edit the xorg file in your install.

I ended up plugging in another monitor. Apparently there are bigger issues. Messages about a failing Hard Dive... Some kind of Flash Plugin error thats related to the NVidia driver? Not sure, bu it looks like I need to first replace the HD and try a fresh install...

Thanks just the same
