Siezed ubuntu, an interuppted upgrade, I get cannot mount ... waiting for..etc.

I have stuff I need on the HD, is there a way to restore to old ubuntu or can I download a recovery disc?

really depends on what you did. if you simply need to recover files you can do that with the live cd. if its more complicated, say you need to recover a partition maybe you need test disk...
