Any advice on a hand-held device running Ubuntu?

Probably a PDA, maybe an ultra-small PC (like an Ikit (http://www.imovio.com/)).

Form-factor-wise, I want it to be small enough to always carry it with me, which - in my case - rules out my Asus EEE 1000 with 8" screen. I would like something that I can slip into a jacket, or trouser pocket, or maybe a belt-pouch.

WiFi is a must, long batter life desirable.

Of course, much of the advice that you can give depends on my intended use, so let's think about that ... not multimedia, so no MP3 or movies, but I will use it as an eBook reader. Must run DropBox to synch with my other PCs. Probably just browsing & email.

I guess that I will use it mainly to access and update my data, to-do, contacts, etc. The usual stuff.

I'll probably want to edit some code, shared over Dropbox, but guess I will need to run "make" from the shell, rather than using Eclipse/KDevelop on such a small screen.

So, no special needs really, I guess. Just pocket-sized, running Ubuntu with wifi & web.

Any advice? Thanks in advance

p.s Cheap is good, but I will consider anything

Wah! This *does* look interesting, thanks. Not sure if this ends my quest ("With only a 300MHz processor and 32MB of RAM we wouldn't go compiling our COMP-SCI 101 homework on here"), but I will I will pick one up in any case.

It's not out yet, but it sounds like the Open Pandora (http://openpandora.org/) will be exactly what you want.

You just want a GNU/linux smart phone.. I think only the N900 fits that bill
