So, I like the idea of Dropbox. I wanted to test it out. But I'm a little confused over something.
Say I have an account and my buddy has an account from 15 miles away, and I want to send him a file. Seems easy enough, but how do we link the accounts?
The thing that kinda confused me is I found a how to video on their actual web site, and when they right click the dropbox icon they have an option to link accounts, which I assume is what I want. Thing is - I don't have that. I even installed Dropbox on my XP machine, and I also don't have it.
In short - How do I link my account to my buddy's account so I can drop in a video file and bam - it begins to transfer?

Create a shared folder using the web interface and move the video file to that folder using your file manager.

I did create a shared folder.
But again, how do I link my account to my buddies account?

You can't link two accounts. The only thing you can do is share a folder, as danielrmt already pointed out.
To do so, right-click on your dropbox tray icon and choose `launch dropbox website`. There you can click on the `Sharing` tab. Everything should be self-explanatory. To invite your friend enter the e-mail address he has used to set up his dropbox account.

Hm, that doesn't make sense to the video tutorial I found. I saw two of them. The first video which was on the actual web site and when the user right clicked the icon, I saw an option to link accounts, which he used. That option for me was not ever there.
Secondly some guy did a video tutorial on youtube and explained he linked his MSN and Apple accounts together, which suggested to me if you can link two different accounts, you can link yours + friends account.
So anyway, getting that out of my head now, I saw the invite option, but I took that as an invite like, to sign up like how gmail first started out by invitation-only. So that's an invite to share what is in my shared folder in my dropbox?

No, the invite box is for you to get 250MB for each person you invite.
When you share a folder, it asks you for the email address of who you want to share the folder with ("Invite collaborators to this folder"). It is not the same as the "public" folder, which is available for everybody trough HTTP.

On the "My Dropbox" page (where all files and folders are displayed) there's a "Share a Folder" tab. This allows you to create a folder that can be shared between two accounts. Once you've created a folder for sharing, you're asked for the email address of the person you wish to share with. Once they've accepted, anything you place in that folder will automatically be saved in the other person's version as well (and vice versa). So the accounts are effectively linked.

That link stuff you saw is how you connect your own computer to your dropbox account. You can connect one or more computers to one account but you need to do this on every computer you want to link and have your dropbox password ready. This is probably not what you want.

Nice! This sounds pretty interesting. I'll have to test it out with the info you guys just gave me and see how it works.
Thanks for the info.
