I do an awful lot of web development, and I tend to hand code using Bluefish. I came across Amaya (http://www.w3.org/Amaya/).

Has anyone used it?

Is it any good?

I would love to know how people have got on with it. Any comments will be gratefully received.

Wow -- edit documents on the web? sounds convenient! I still use KompoZer for web pages and have started using Bluefish for other code. I'll try out Amaya. thx

I honestly don't know why people bother making topics like this.

It's free, how about, you download it and try it for yourself?

Obviously it's going to be good for some people, whilst bad for others.

We don't know if you'll like it...

I just tried to install it on my test Ubuntu, and it said a file was missing.

My development machine acts as a test web server - so I could use it for editing local files before publishing.

I created this thread as I value others' opinions. If I was in the pub having a similar conversation for example, I may well ask my companions "What do you think about Amaya? Have you tried it?"

I will download and try myself, and I know that you will not know if I like it. But that shouldn't stop me asking for others' opinions.

If do you don't like these type of threads then don't read them, or respond to them.

I created this thread as I value others' opinions.

Then you should value the negative opinions just as well.

If you don't like certain posts in a thread, don't reply to/quote them.

I'll value all opinions regarding Amaya - which is what I asked about in the first place. It just happens there aren't any negative ones yet (apart from the missing file - I didn't have this problem).

I use the eclipse package for php developers (http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/).

However, the other day I passed across this project: Bespin (https://mozillalabs.com/bespin/)

It's a tool that allows you to cooperatively edit source of any kind on a server. It looks very neat for web development, though they say it's still pretty young...

and with respect to amaya...I have no previous experience...

+1 Geany is awesome. FileZilla + Geany is a great combo.

I tried it last year, it crashed 3 times in 5 minutes.
I haven't bothered since, but maybe the new version is better.

Really depending on what I am doing the simplest of text editors works fine in most cases

Just when I have multiple column and rows do things get interesting in a text editor.

I use Bluefish and Notepad++

I love the quick start options in Bluefish. :)

Haven't tried this other one but I might take a look.
