I was wondering how do people apprehend this colossus of http://ubuntuforums.org? It's so big with so many posts how do get to the little sliver of it that you participate with?

I, for instance, subscribe to the general rss feed and the community cafe rss feed in google reader and check out the titles I am interested in. If I post something, I usually sign up for an email subscription to a thread.

What do you do? Go to the home page and start from there? Do you monitor certain forums? What else?

At the moment, I just monitor what's going on in the "Community Cafe" and "Forum Feedback & Help" forums. The rest of the forums bore me.

I click on random buttons and I see all of the bright lights........

I am not high actually but rather insane. Seriously though I monitor certain forums, mostly Absolute Beginner Talk (http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=326), Gaming & Leisure (http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=93) and the cafe (http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=11).

This.

This place gets probably 500 posts every 5 minutes. Trying to even keep up with one sub-sub-forum here is a 24/7 job. Hence the Cafe having what? 30 or 40 moderators?

What is the significance of Joeb454's name being in green and the rest being in red?

My bookmark takes me straight to the Cafe. I pretend other parts of the site don't exist.

I have bookmarked System 76 Support, which I visit 2-3 times a day, in my web browser. For The Resolution Center, Forum Feedback & Help, and the Cafe, I access them from the Main Page aa couple of times a week.
Occasionally, I access something else from the main page just out of curiosity.

When I read the thread title the first thing that popped in my mind was: Somebody made a FUSE filesystem that mounts the forums as normal directory.
Now that would be cool!

The help fourms are a bit daunting. I try to spend an hour or so on one forum, following the half dozen or so threads where I am trying to lend assistance. I usually don't wade in on someone else's thread if I can help it. But sometimes I feel compelled to call out bad advice.

I think it's the whining that discourages me the most. I mean, here you are giving of your time to help the little sh**s and all they can do is complain about how your not listening and that doesn't work so why are you so dumb. But I learned to bite my toungue with my grand kids and these kids are no different. But the people coming over from windows and expecting every thing to work LIKE windows is the most frustrating. They come across a little bump in the road, usually of their own creation, and they try to lay a guilt trip on you like, "if you don't fix my computer I'm going back to windows." Well go!

It's nice to have my own place to rant before I go back to trenches and help the guy who couldn't edit grub.cfg so he used another distro to get in through the back door and now he thinks everything is good.:lolflag:

Well... when a user and an ubuntuforums love each other really, really much, they decide to become a mommy and daddy...

It all starts when the user...

... uh ...

Maybe you should ask your mother about this.

Too bad this is only some what funny if you only read the thread title and not the actual post. ;)

only need the new posts button and the link to my profile ... my theory on this site is, update postes until i find something interesting, post, and check back later to see if anyone has made any good comments.. which is exactly how i found this thread :D

You're just mad because I didn't say "HAHHA EPIC WIN!!!!@!@"

That's okay though, understandable.

I just go to the ones I like and look around. Subscribing to any is pointless, considering the number of posts that occur.

The Community Cafe & Programming Talk. If I'm feeling helpful I'll check out General Help. I don't use RSS or whatever.
