I don't care if it's commercial!
Any strategy games say set in 0 - 1800 AC of a realist scenario. I mean the really good ones.
Thanks!!

Were you talking about years/dates and meant to say AD?

I really used to enjoy Europa Universaris, although it's not a game for everyone. Other than that, I love Civ I and Civ II (not 3 and 4).

Company of Heroes works well on WINE. It's a really good RTS.

+1 for the Europa Universalis series, it fits just about all of your requirements and runs perfectly on Wine.
If you're willing to stretch the time setting requirement a bit, you might also want to try Victoria: An empire under the sun. It's similar to the EU series in design, but a lot more complex, and is set mainly in the 19th century, and the 20th century up to WWI.

Chess, it's the ultimate strategy game and can be in whatever setting you want.

if you don't mind expanding the timescale by a few centuries, warzone2100 is really good.

Play BackGammon, it's an awesome game. There's a GNU version for it too, so it can run natively on Linux.
