Hello,

Do you like the new theme? Or rather, would you like to have the ability to change it to something else?

It's not as flexible as the previous version of GDM (yet), but you can still make changes (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=7576112&postcount=365).

To be honest, it's the first default GDM I haven't wanted to remove immediately! I really like it, and with the Dust theme it really makes Ubuntu look a bit special.

I like how it looks, but I would like to have an easy way to change the look (somewhat like the previous version, where one could install themes).

It's the only bad thing about Karmic that I can think of. Everything else is fine. I'm the sort of person that likes to change the whole look of my system quite frequently so having an easily configurable GDM is important. Hopefully, it'll be as easy to change as it was in Jaunty pretty soon.

You can even change it dynamically:

I use this script and Wallpaper Tray to vary the GDM background image constantly.

I actually like xdm to be honest.

Have to vote 'no' because there's no easy way to reconfigure it. I'm especially surprised at this as I thought typing rather than choosing a user was an added element of security - removing it seems contrary to Linux philosophy.

I would like it to be as simple as possible, no special effects. The karmic gdm 'gets into my way' a bit too much.

The one in Xubuntu Karmic is cool!

I like to be able to change, the whole Human theme is not really to my liking. I like a bright, cheery interface.

Hmmm, yeah, I think its not too bad - but I would like the option to change it. Not being able to change it is like using a MAC.:lolflag:

You can make it work in Ubuntu as well:

I like it because it looks nice.

Looks good, but it seems to pay a price in greater complexity/inflexibility and (on a new MSI K9N6PGM2 mobo with AMD Athlon II x2 240) it hangs bigtime. No diagnostics yet, since it thrashes the new HD and flickers the TTY1 prompt so hard and fast that I hit the switch and sweated a bit.
Ubuntu 910 loads and runs live, just fine. nVidia drivers install OK and the installation to HD went smoothly, but the boot-up hung with extreme prejudice.
Same Ubuntu CD installed and ran fine on an Acer REVO nettop and an old Acer 4315, so I guess the boot stuff disagrees with my new desktop. <sigh>
Workaround: have removed Ubuntu and installed Xubuntu, an old favourite. No boot problems with that. //Off Topic// Quite like the Xubuntu welcome theme! ;)

All the best, Ben

PS will submit bug report when we have a clearer idea where the problem lies.

I don't like it, but I use autologin.
