One of the paid ad's at the top is a link to Microsoft.com

It's titled:
"Linux"
with the description:
"Who's Best? Windows or Linux? Read the independent reports -Free"

I don't mean to start and flame wars, I just thought it was pretty funny.

I've got it on the first place in the UK edition.

This a quote of one of the report featuring there:

Linux does not appear ready for desktop primetime. In many ways, Linux’s
evolutionary stage—in terms of support—is where Windows was 10 years ago.

Paid for by Microsoft I'm sure. I stopped reading things from Microsoft a long time ago as they are experts at lies/FUD/misinformation/coercion/bullying/theft/etc.

The best 'freeminded' information can be found on www.google.com/linux

For the Firefox users, if you don't want those ads anymore you can use this extension https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=743&application=firefox

It improves your anonymity, removes ads on google and improve the search for pictures.

In this way you'll be able to make your own ideas instead of visiting sponsored sites.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up.

I just use the noscript extension. I can allow a site that shows google ads without the google ads being shown since they come from a different domain. And I don't even use google anyways.

Yeah I know but the extension actually improves google too so...

And it removes the ads in my gmail account.

Anyway I just love it.

I'm not getting that add through google.com.

The report they'll probably be linking to is the Microsoft-funded "but very independent" Windows vs. Linux report that was made a few months ago. Microsoft-funded; no wonder the conclusion is that Windows is better.

A couple of days ago, a similar report made by Linux experts (without any funding) was published which concluded the opposite.

Oh, by the way.

If any of you tried the CustomizeGoogle extension, you must disable NoScript for google for it to work since the CG extension changes and adds stuff too.

Well... the guy making CustomizeYahoo isn't supporting his project anymore so I can't give you an alternative...

BUT

If you know people bashing Linux, tell them to get the REAL facts

there is no such thing as the "real facts" on this. ok actually there are, but no one ever finds them.

linux researchers find linux cheaper, better, faster, stronger, tastier, prettier, softer, etc
windows researchers find windows cheaper, better, faster, stronger, tastier, prettier, softer, etc in their tests too

Why use those links with you can do your simple searches on www.foxlogic.net ?
It's a search engine that uses google results and is advertisement free.

Not bad !

But you don't have the CustomizeGoogle Image search functionality
AND I use gmail so I like not having ads in it.

Well, last time i installed, i forgot to set the monitor resolution to 1280x1024. This forced me to type "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" and fix it.

In such situation, i'd say it reminds me of the trouble installing drivers in Win95. Then Microsoft is actually not that wrong :)

Who's Best: Windows or Linux? Read the independent reports - free

They just had to mention the reports are free as if somehow someone would actually want to pay to see them. :-? You know, one shouldn't believe all advertisements in Google are credible or legitimate, as some of them are for rogue Windows' software including rogue anti-spyware, rogue registry cleaners/fixers, and so on.
