Hi Steam,

I think its:

System > Administration > Login Window

in the window that appears on clicking the menu item, select the local tab, and then options are available there.

http://gnome-look.org/

Provides downloadable login screens.

I havent got a ubuntu box present to check this, but I'm pretty sure thats the way to do it. It will point you in the right direction at least.

There's some nice themes @ Ubuntu Geek (http://www.ubuntugeek.com/nice-themes-for-ubuntu-9-10-karmic-users.html)

As far as I'm aware, System > Administration > Login Window does not have the button to change the login screen on Ubuntu 9.10 .

You can try this: http://www.ubuntumini.com/2009/09/hack-karmics-gdm-login-screen.html

Looks like Karmic (by which I mean the latest version of gnome), has made changing the login screen infinitely more difficult... None of the fixes I've seen come close to replacing the previous version.
