looking for a detailed cpu meter that shows with a mouse over or similar...small and able to be up in the corner somewhere....something that shows full CPU use ,dual core..

This is only a small portion of my Conky setup, but its the relevant CPU portion. Non-obtrusive and as detailed as you want.

hardware-monitor which is a gnome applet and shows cpu usage in various graphical forms
and has a mouse over function.
I use this and sensors-applet along with conky.

There are TONS of screenlets to choose from here (http://www.gnome-look.org/index.php?xcontentmode=6700&PHPSESSID=e6a331574fdb69564d76efdd62bcaee5). Take a look around and see what they have. I know they have many different types of CPU monitors.

Just google screenlets to find the screenlet main software download.
