View Full Version : Different backgrounds on different desktops; progress?

According to this idea (http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/93/) on Ubuntu Brainstorm, the features allowing users to have a different background/wallpaper for each desktop/workspace are in development, and targetted for 9.10. I've poked around in my 9.10 install and can't find any way of doing this, so I'm assuming that it didn't make it into the release. Does anyone have any information on how things are going with this? Has this been abandoned because Gnome 3 is coming out soon anyway and there's not much point in adding features to Gnome 2?

Note: I do realize that it's possible to get a similar effect by using compiz and turning off the drawing of the desktop (http://geexpot.blogspot.com/2008/09/how-to-set-different-wallpapers-on-each.html). In fact, that's what I'm doing right now. Still, I wish there was a less hackish way of doing this, so that I could keep my desktop icons.
