Hi all,

My mouse cursor is a garbled 2cm x 2cm square of pixel garbage.

My Graphics Card is a [Motherboard integrated] 'VIA Chrome9 HC IGP', if that information helps? I figure that this ugly looking bug is somehow related to my card?

Any ideas on how to rectify this?

I would bet it is a bad graphic card controller. I have a test machine and about a year ago I was testing some old cards and one of them gave me the same problem. Instead of trying to fix drivers and the kernel for me it was just easier to swap video cards.

Of course if you don't have another... :(

It depends on the video card, driver, version of ubuntu and 32 or 64 bit. Hardy Heron 32 and 64 bit were okay but after that installing a live CD was a problem. If you can get into grub hit tab and insert nomodeset in place of quiet flash or something. Try to do the same in live boot but it's a lot of messing and trying but I've done it once and I'm having a job doing it again. Open susy was same.
