My friend told me about this the other night and I thought I'd share it... You can set your browser home page to:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random

And you'll get a different Wikipedia article every time you start it up. How cool is that?! :D

Not very cool at all.

I don't know about Pasdar, but I have no aversion to learning. It is how an intellectual being grows.

But "random" Wikipedia articles has very little to do with learning. I would classify it as "entertainment". And Wikipedia makes pretty poor entertainment. For an example, take a look at this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Pollard) Wikipedia article. It's the kind of thing that a "random" sampling might turn up. Is it informative or entertaining? I don't think so. I don't think it's particularly cool either.

I go to the equivalent of your MIT in the US. There is such a thing as useless information, of which there is a lot on the internet. People call this the information age, but all people spend doing everyday is gather useless information and watch porn.

Nice idea........ trouble is, I got this

John K. McIlwain is a senior resident fellow at the Urban Land Institute and holds the ULI/J. Ronald Terwilliger chair for housing. He is also chairman of the Center for Housing Policy, the research affiliate of the National Housing Conference. He regularly contributes to ULI's blog, The Ground Floor.
McIlwain also served as senior managing director of the American Communities Fund for Fannie Mae, and was president and CEO of the Fannie Mae Foundation. Before joining Fannie Mae, he was a partner in the law firm of Powell, Goldstein, Frazer and Murphy. He served as executive assistant to the assistant secretary for housing at the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, and began his career at the Maine State Housing Authority. McIlwain has a Bachelor's degree from Princeton University and a JD from New York University School of Law.

Not so much a case of how cool is that as how boring is that.

Anyway, thanks for sharing.

Looks like you are among the victims of information age - next time, you can just skip a thread you find useless.

Regarding porn, believe it or not people used to watch it even before the internet.

Yeah, most of the articles on Wikipedia are quite boring, but that makes it extra special when an interesting one turns up, and you might read about something you didn't know before.

I'm learndinating.

Nice! I guess Wikipedia is for interest, Uncyclopedia is for sheer hilarity :)
