Anyone bought a Linux pre-installed computer from here (http://www.linuxemporium.co.uk)? I'm eyeing up the Lenovo IdeaPads as an alternative to the Dell Mini 10v. I'd like to know what you think, especially if you have bought from or dealt with this website before.

I have only had email dealings with the company so far, but from that I think they are an extremely good organisation. I asked a question about a pcmcia card late one Sunday night, expecting to have to wait a few days for a response, but next morning there was my answer, with no extra sales push, just information.

You can, I believe, get the truth from them about all the items they sell, and of course being a linux specialist, they know about the OS, its problems and advantages, which is very refreshing when most of us have been dealing only with other sellers to whom linux seems to be a dirty word.

Thought so - it's probably just a printing error.

The ones with 100w PSUs are built in Shuttle cases, these come with 100w PSUs as standard fitment, 100w is plenty for their intended use.

yes i bought a S12 from them in september. i would highly recommend them.

the first S12 they send me was defective. in order to get the replacement to me before i left the country for some travels, they drove it too me. they were very responsive to emails. seems like they will go out of the way to help customers.

400 W for a desktop. thats quite shocking when a laptop only uses 10-20 W. if you ran a 400W machine for 6 hours a day it will cost you ~ £100 per year in electricity.

The fact that the PS is 400W does not mean that it draws 400 W all the time it is running, just that it can do so if you are running lots of disk drives, graphics card, and power hungry applications all at the same time. Modern PS will only use a fraction of their rated wattage most of the time.

Average OEM machines come with 250-350w PSUs. 400w psus are generally high on the average for oem machines. You'll usually only see 400w psus in higher end machines, or ones custom built.

Most people building their own pcs don't know how much they need. They buy a 700w psu when their computer only consumes about 350w.

I've seen -many- oem machines running celerons, semprons, ect, powered by 150w psus. Its not that uncommon.

Computer parts are much cheaper in the US. Much.

I bought my Lenovo laptop from them - they were very helpful and let me phone one of them on a Saturday on their mobile.

I would recommend them.
