I have been attempting an install on an Inspiron E1705 with Win7 currently installed.
I have been getting symptoms identical to this poster's:

Switching to tty8, I can see these messages
* Starting early crypto disks...
* Starting remaining crypto disks...
* Starting Kernel Oops catching service kerneloops
* Speech-dispatcher configured for per-user sessions
* Enabling additional executable binary formats binfmts-support
* Checking battery state...
...done.
And it just sits there indefinitely. I have used both a burned CD and a bootable USB drive. I tested the ISO by installing it on a virtual machine and it went without a hitch.
