I just installed (from scratch) 9.10. I would prefer the old "savedefault" under grub1, but everything has changed under grub2. I tried setting the default to 0 in /etc/default/grub, but this did not work.
is there a GUI for configuring grub2 under ubuntu?

They are updating SUM but it is very limited for grub2 right now:
See note on grub2:

On my initial installation of Karmic I tried using Startup-Manager to configure grub2 but it did nothing but gum up the entire grub2 system. Nothing worked as it should after that (although it did boot). When I reinstalled Karmic, all my grub2 problems went away.

Any news on this? startupmanager has grub as a dependency in Lucid, so I'm assuming not...
