Installed 9.10 with no problems on my 1000HE (I don't use the Fn or Silver buttons so I don't care if they work or not). The OS works fine, installed my apps and restored my data from backup and life is good. That is until I try to connect to an external monitor or projector. Then the system locks up.
When running 9.04 I had to edit the xorg.conf file to set the Virtual Resolution higher. With 9.10 there isn't an xorg.conf file any more. I created one containing my 9.04 settings as I had read that a xorg.conf will be used if it exists. Alas no satisfaction, it still locks up.
xrandr reports:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 600, maximum 4096 x 4096
VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
LVDS1 connected 1024x600+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 220mm x 129mm
1024x600 60.0*+
640x480 59.9
I'm not sure what incantation to use at the command line to increase the Virtual Resolution (if that's even the problem). I tried the following with the following results:
$ xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1920x1200
xrandr: cannot find mode 1920x1200
Anybody have ideas or links that describe how to get high resolution connection to an external monitor without locking up?
Thanks
Jim
