View Full Version : [ubuntu] no bootable device -- insert boot disk

I tried instaling 9.10 via live CD. I had 9.04 and Windows XP in dual boot.

during installation, I selected the old 9.04 partition for new root partition with ext4 type.

The installation failed due to bad CD. Then when the system rebooted without the Live CD I got a message "Error 2 loading grub"

So I rebooted in Live CD mode. When 9.10 runs in Live CD mode I get a message that says "A hard disk may be failing. One or more hard disk report health problems".

However I am able to browse through all the partitions / drives through the 'Places' menu on top bar.

I re-installed 9.10 with a new Live CD and it went through.

and now when I reboot without the live CD I get a message "No bootable device - insert boot disk..."

What could be the problem?

Please help.
