A few days ago I updated from the last version of ubuntu to the newer one (9.10).
During the installation I got 2 errors:

E: /var/cache/apt/archives/openoffice.org-emailmerge_1%3a3.1.1-5ubuntu1_all.deb: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/openoffice.org-filter-binfilter_1%3a3.1.1-5ubuntu1_i386.deb: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

And it says something about openoffice already running but I can't fin any process running. In the update manager I can't install those updates because I get these errors.
Another problem is that when I turn on the computer I get a splash-screen with xubuntu (although I have ubuntu). When I turn off the computer it shows me a mouse (from the xubuntu logo). Why?

P.S.:I'm kinda' new in this community so don't be too harsh on me.Also, i'm new with this linux OS (but I like it a lot) .

Have you tried with that method: [Ubuntu] Installing OOo on Debian and Co. (http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=68)
