Im currently running ubuntu 9.10 and have found it slower than 9.04

my hardware is

20gb harddrive 3 partition 10gb xp, 9gb ubuntu and 1gb swap
1.4 ghz processor
256mb ram

i would like to install xubuntu but i cant do a 600-700mb download but i know i can download xfce in about 100-200mb i think.

So i plan to install xfce and then remove anything which is deafult ubuntu stuff but leave anything i need for xubuntu then i should be left with a xubuntu laptop.

If that is right and you understand :).

so could anyone tell me what command line to insall xfce and what and how to remove any ubuntu stuff or i belive its gnome.

thanks

p.s any one know where i can download windows 7 beta but only the home basic version 2.5 gb for beta :o and if not can you get a taskbar thing like that for ubuntu or xubuntu

Hi rhyz, this tutorial will install Xfce and remove Gnome:

http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/purexfce

What you really need though is more RAM. 256mb is the bare minimum; if you can upgrade to 1gb or even 512mb, you will see a big difference.

Windows 7 is available at your friendly local electronics store. :)
