For all those who get blanked out screen try the settings in your grub default file please look at message #5 in post http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8222982&highlight=screen+blank#post8222982
This has worked for me!! I think the issues relate to power management, i have it disabled at the moment until an update is produced.
