I´m having problems to install new ubuntu 9.10 in an AMD K6 II - 350 with 256 MB RAM, mobo Asus P5A-B, HD 40GB Ide.
The ubuntu CD boot, I choose the language, but nothing else works.
When I choose 'use without install' does not work.
When I choose 'install on my HD' does not work.
I just format the HD to install this new OS, but I only receive a messagem that is not possible install Ubuntu and reboot.
I install Windows XP Pro sp3, did all the updates and the micro has everything working (slow, but working fine).

Can't I use 9.10 with this hardware?

tks.

Hello Carlos,

I think it's because you only have 256 MB of Ram, the bare minimum that Ubuntu needs to run. Of this 256 MB a number of MB's may be taken by your graphics card and there you are: too little working space for Ubuntu.

You might do 2 things (probably more, but I can now think of these two :) ):

1. Get some more memory. Memory is cheap now, but the memory you need possibly hard to find and also not so cheap. Go to a good computer store.

2. You might try a lighter version, Xubuntu. Don't know how much memory it needs, might be only 128 MB's.

Hope this helps,
