Is it a login prompt? Can you login with the terminal?

I tried logging in. It did nothing but just showed my log in stuff. The screen shows: the basic start up the ends with checking battery state...done... Then puts as cursor as if it is waiting for me to input something.

Was the computer turned off during the upgrade?
Also what happens if you press Ctl+ ALt + F1

yes comp was turned off during upgrade. if ctrl+alt+f1 is pressed it goes to a login prompt. after logging in it takes me to a screen with ubuntu information and my comp information. then it says staci@srslaptop:~$

Good. From that screen do the command below.
sudo apt-get update & sudo apt-get upgrade

Try:
sudo dpkg –configure -a

Try:
sudo dpkg –configure -a
I think the xorg file may have been corrupt since the comp was shut off during install.

Then after apt-get upgrade do.................
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
This may take a while to finish.

Hi Guys, I seem to be in the same boat as staci. My upgrade to 9.10 just went **** up and after re booting I just get
One or more of the mounts listed in /etc/fstab cannot yet be mounted:
/:waiting for /dev/disk/by-uuid/2649a1fa-23fo-403e-b5cc-d155c2d037da
/tmp: waiting for (null)
swap: waiting for UUID=35d316ad-13f8-4729-8907-be9e8e4f49ad
I've tried to install from a CD but it doesn't boot. When I try the commandline all I get is error 27 urecognized command.
any help appreciated as I loved my old ubuntu OS and don't want to use my Vista laptop unless I have to...cheers

Did you turn it on and off again? (Sorry could not resist a bit of The IT crowd).
But well maybe a reboot?
