this may (hopefully) safe you some upgrade grief.
1. Turn off the screen saver
2. do NOT walk away during the installation process
you are not needed during the download, but ...!
After the updates have finished downloading and the install starts, you will need to click "ok" a few times in dialog boxes. If you do not, and if your screen saver kicks in it seems to freeze up and then all hell breaks loose.
