Error when upgrading

When updating from 9.04 to 9.10, everything goes well until a certain point, when I get the following message:

Invalid package information

After your package information was updated the essential package 'ubuntu-minimal' can not be found anymore.
This indicates a serious error, please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report.

What can be done to fix this? I've attached the files in the designated location so maybe one of you can figure it out. Thanks.

Also, when trying to update repository index, I get this message:
