So...yesterday, I decided to install ubuntu on my computer as a dual boot system with Vista...anyways, since I'm new to linux, I partitioned my drive and used wubi to install ubuntu on said OS. It worked the first time, but when I attempted to turn my computer on again and boot into ubuntu, it gave me an error message:

Kernel panic not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (8, 5).

I tried booting in recovery mode, only to get the same message.
As for what may have caused this...currently I think ubuntu's auto upgrade upgraded one of my graphic card's drivers, thus causing this all...any way to reverse this?

I think I have the same problem, and started about the same time as yours...

Filed a bug-report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/477169
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will have some more information...
