Let me start by saying stating two important points. 1. I am a total Ubuntu newbie and 2. I have scoured the internet for 5 days looking and trying every possible solution.
Please help.
The problem is really quite simple. I have a Dell desktop that worked perfectly under 9.04. I performed a clean install of 9.10 and since then this same machine cannot connect to the internet via a wired Ethernet connection. I’ve tried dhcp and static ip, all with the same result.
I found several posts that seem to be the same issue, however either they didn’t work for my situation, or I’m too new at this to implement the fixes.
This is the post that most closely resembled my issue.

There must be an expert out there with what I am certain is a very simple solution.
