Greyed-out gij distribution update after 9.10 upgrade

After upgrading to 9.10, I went to Update Manager and there is a greyed-out update for gij under the heading Distribution Updates. I cannot check it since it is greyed-out. Why is it there? How can I take care of it?

Greyed-out distribution updates appear to be a not-uncommon problem.

For this specific problem, I opened Synaptic and searched for gij. Its information said "This is a transitional package. It can be removed." So, I completely removed it and "gij" disappeared from Update Manager.

Not sure why it stayed there in the first place, but it's gone.
