I'm upgrading to Karmic, this time with 32 bit instead of 64 for compatibility issues. I obviously want to keep all 70 + gigabytes of data from my existing installation, but I don't have an external hard drive. Is it possible to install Karmic on the entire drive (minus the space that Jaunty is occupying), copy files over, then delete the Jaunty partition and resize my Karmic partition to fill the entire drive?

It is possible, but you need to make sure you back up your stuff some how, because messing around with partitions and not having backups of some kind is just asking for trouble.
