I let the update manager upgrade me to 9.10. The process, although slow, seemed to work smoothly. But, to my surprise, I encountered my first true disappointment with Ubuntu.

The first bug I hit was one that wouldn't, and still won't, let me log in under a GNOME session. I have to log in under a GNOME failsafe session. I'm not sure what the cause of this is, but it's a rather annoying bug.

So, after I got in, I thought "maybe I should try some updates to see if I get any bug fixing ones." The update manager updated itself, and that was the only update. I decided (since I had custom software keys) to look at my sources. The software sources menu shows some jaunty files, and has disabled a couple of my other sources, of which I'm not sure work with 9.10 or not. I don't know if this is normal or safe, but it's there.

From there, everything else seems to be running smoothly. My question is, are these bugs common and is there a way to get around them yet?
