Hello ppl. Plain simple. How fast is your download speeds. I would appreciate if you refer to when you were Downloading Ubuntu 9.10
I used the University computers to downoad. It was at 800Kb/s - 1Mb/s (megabytes)

I'm confused, what does speedtest.net measure? bytes or bits?

http://www.speedtest.net/result/610113040.pngThat is not the download speed you get from Ubuntu.com (or mirrors) that is the Internet speed on your router. My speed on SpeedTest.net is about 12mb/s down and 0.90 mb/s up

I get 1.4 mbps download speed from the Norwegian mirror

I downloaded Karmic via bittorrent. Speed averaged about 40K per sec (320 kbps). This was using a cellphone as modem. Download speeds average 40-50 K per sec

Speedtest.net measures in kilobits per second. System Monitor shows speeds as kilobytes per second.

Frankly, I've always wondered why speed is often measured in kilobits per sec. Most other things are measured in bytes or multiples thereof. For instance, storage: a 1 GB flash stick is 1 gigabyte - that's 8 gigabits[/B]. Does anyone know why speed comes in bits and other stuff in bytes?

Edit: I'm in a good mood. Did some work on the wiring for our phone line and managed to squeeze some more Mb/sec
