Hi,

I had problems with network upgrade (problem in my other thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1306726) and my cdrom also does not work - hardware issue. So I decided to try and upgrade using a USB.

I downloaded the ISO and created a startup USB. I rebooted and was able to run live usb (without install). I rebooted to my old installation to backup files.

When I tried to reboot again from the USB, the installation freezes. I am able to select language. But as soon as I select any try or install options it freezes. I once waited for 20 mins still nothing happened.. my USB kept blinking.

I am not sure what happened as it worked once correctly and subsequently did not. I recreated the start up USB by erasing/formatting and all still it keeps freezing.

Any solution guys what can I do? Has it affected the boot partition in anyway ... ???

Please help!

From personal experience, the Live USB can do some crazy things. It is unusual to reinstall the Live CD and not have it boot. Give unetbootin (http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/) a try. It's just another way to make a bootable USB Live CD.
Your boot partition should be fine.
