View Full Version : [ubuntu] Cannot use Karmic in QEMU or VirtualBox

I have the ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso file and used it to install Karmic without a problem. Wonderful.

Then I installed QEMU (apparently without problem). However, it will only display the early stages of installation or Live CD usage. After a while it hangs.

So I then went to a Vista machine with the latest VirtualBox installation which had previously run 9.10 alphas, but this fails in the same way at the same point?

Does anyone else get this and is there a workaround?

Thanks!

This appears to be an ISO problem.

After further testing it seems that only the Karmic ISO makes QEMU and VirtualBox barf, as I have since burned it to a CD, which VirtualBox then seems happy with.

I have installed a karmic desktop i386 iso in virtualbox 3, with no problems.

Thanks, that's useful to know. I have used VitualBox 3 on an Acer and an HP machine both in Ubuntu and Windows with the ISO always failing but the CD working.

I guess it's machine specific and time for a bug report...
